Friends
The Friends of the Leominster Public Library is a non-profit
organization whose purpose is to promote the library and its
services. Through various fundraising projects and
membership dues, the Friends provide financial support for
museum passes, library newsletter, programs and special
projects. New members are always welcome to join. For
further information, contact the library's information desk
at 978 534-7522.
Friends History
In 1977, a small group of interested, dedicated volunteers
joined together to form the Friends of the Leominster Public
Library. This non-profit organization has grown from a few
energetic individuals to 500+ individual, family and
corporate members. These members whether active or
non-active, all provide the much needed "extra" support for
the library. Over the past 25 years, the Friends have raised
over $300,000 for the Leominster Public Library. In addition
to raising funds for the library, the Friends lobby for
important library issues and legislation on the federal,
state, and local levels.
The Friends hold two book sales annually, a week-long sale
in the spring and a one-day sale during the Johnny Appleseed
Festival in late September. Annually, proceeds from
memberships, donations and fund raising events support the
Museum Pass Program, informational, educational and
recreational programs for all ages; and the library's
Historical & Genealogical Collection. Additionally, the
Friends have provided funding for numerous special projects
in the library. Some of the most recent projects include
renovation of the Children's Room, public access Internet
computers, and renovation of the Young Adult Center, now the
Robert Cormier Center for Young Adults.
