Dedication of Leominster Public Library Children’s Room
The Leominster Public Library Board of Trustees is pleased
to announce the dedication and naming of the Library’s
Children’s Room in honor and memory of Dr. Martin T.
Feldman. This event will take place on Sunday, September 9th
from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Following a brief dedication ceremony,
the afternoon will be filled with fun activities for
children and their families.
“This is such a fitting tribute to a well-respected and
much-loved man, who devoted over 30 years of his life to
caring for the children of our community,” said Library
Director Susan T. Shelton. “The library’s beautiful new
Children’s Room could not be more appropriately named. Dr.
Feldman, through his pediatric practice and his work in the
community, touched the lives of so many children, parents,
and grandparents who visit the library regularly.” The
dedication ceremony will rename the Children’s Room, the
library’s space serving children newborn through age 11, to
the “Dr. Martin T. Feldman Children’s Room”.
“I am honored to be part of the planning for this dedication
and the naming of the Children’s Room” Shelton said. “I
first met the family in the late 1970s, when Dr. Geraldine
Feldman spent every Friday afternoon with one of her
children in the library during the time I served as the Head
of Children’s Services.”
Dr. Geraldine Feldman said “Marty would have been thrilled
to have the Children’s Room named after him. The Children’s
Room provided countless hours of enjoyment for our children.
It is very gratifying to know it will continue to be a
wonderful resource for children and their families for
generations to come.”
The Feldman Family has a long-standing relationship with the
Leominster Public Library spanning several decades. Dr.
Feldman’s strong belief in the importance of early literacy
and education led to the family’s support of the library
through the establishment of the Drs. Martin and Geraldine
Feldman Children’s Book Fund more than a decade ago. Over
the years, the Feldman Family has celebrated birthdays,
honored milestones in friends’ lives, and remembered loved
ones through donations to the library. Dr. Feldman’s
colleagues recognized his 25th anniversary of practicing
pediatrics in Leominster with a donation of a reading table
for the Children’s Room.
The afternoon’s celebration will include an organ grinder
and monkey, incredible balloon art, magic, face painting,
music, and refreshments. The Feldman Family and the
Leominster Public Library Board of Trustees invite the
community to join them for the dedication and festivities,
as we name the Children’s Room, and honor the memory of Dr.
Martin T. Feldman.
