Obituaries or other newspaper searches
The only newspaper retained on microfilm at the Leominster
Public Library is the Leominster Enterprise. It was
published weekly or semi-weekly 1873-1903 and daily (except
Sundays) beginning in December 1895. The library has some
gaps in its holdings, notably missing the daily papers from
December 22, 1896, to December 31, 1903. Since September 3,
1973, the Enterprise has been published jointly with the
Fitchburg Sentinel, which began publication in 1838. For
items in the Fitchburg paper prior to September 3, 1973,
please contact the Fitchburg Public Library (610 Main St.,
Fitchburg, MA 01420, telephone
978-829-1780). Please be
aware that the Enterprise is not indexed. An obituary file
from the Enterprise has been begun, but it is very much a
work in progress.
Obituaries or specific news articles from the Enterprise may
be requested in person, by telephone, by mail or by e-mail.
The following information is required: complete name of the person,
date of death (month and year
at a minimum, date if available), city or town of last
residence if known. In addition, the requester’s name and
contact information (address, telephone number, e-mail
address if available) are also required.
